... ONLINE DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY IMPROVES QUALITY
CONTROL MOTIVATES GROWER EXCELLENCE!!
A picture
is worth 1,000 words and using today's technology it can be transmitted instantaneously
from one part of the world to another with crystal clarity.
Since 1997, Bionova Produce Inc./Master's Touch® has been using clear digital photographs of fresh produce
that are transmitted from customers upon arrival
in the U.S., Canada, Japan, Chile, Hong Kong and other worldwide markets. Fresh produce
shipments have dramatically improved as instant photos of packing materials and fresh
produce result in immediate problem solving and improved shipping and packing techniques.
Plans are underway between Bionova Produce Inc./Master's Touch® and key customers on
other uses of the technology to modify marketing strategies and improve communication.
Digital photographs of fresh produce upon departure and arrival enable Bionova Produce
Inc./Master's Touch® inspectors and customers to sustain communication, solve problems
and implement new quality assurance techniques. Digital photos of shipments upon arrival
directly to the grower enable him to take immediate steps to correct shipping or packing
problems.
"Clear
digital images of fresh produce transmitted online have overcome natural language problems
where describing problems by telephone or facsimile were difficult," said Stan
Ichikawa, Food Division Manager/Assistant GM for the Los Angeles office of Mitsubishi,
Japan's largest fresh produce distributor. "The digital picture provides the fastest
and most efficient method of sending valuable information to the grower/shipper."
"Using digital photography is a useful tool for us to enhance the product and
control its shipping and distribution," he said. "The Master's Touch® label has
a strong following in Japan and the technology will help us ensure that our products
consistently meet Japanese standards."
Digital photography online has become a positive feedback tool for each grower as
"best packing practices" are showcased on Bionova Produce Inc. website
(www.masterstouch.com). Growers get regular "good news" online photo displays
as well as detailed shipping information from an extensive andwell-developed database. Digital photo displays, transmitted regularly from Bionova's
Nogales central distribution center, motivate growers to improve quality control and
assess their performance in comparison to other growers.
