Good Taste, Good Nutrition
Melons in all varieties are a source of Vitamins A, B and C. They're low in calories
and taste great mixed with other fruits like grapes, oranges, papayas, mangoes, and more.
Melon slices beautify main dish items and add cool refreshment as a counterpoint to hot
foods. For breakfast to lunchtime snacks to desert, they're wonderfully versatile.
Keeping Melons Fresh And Beautiful
Cantaloupes are highly perishable, and should be stored properly (at 36º-38º F.). and
handled carefully to avoid bruising. Honeydew melons are more sturdy and generally have a
shelf life of two to three weeks when stored at 45º-50º F.. It's hard to bruise the
thick hide of a watermelon, but they should also be stored at 40º-50º F. and relative
humidity of 85-90% like all melons. |
